About Dr. Rachel Kim

Dr. Rachel Kim is a licensed child psychologist whose research focuses on how personalized media affects early childhood development. She earned her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University, where her dissertation explored the relationship between self-recognition in picture books and emergent literacy skills in children aged 2 to 6.

Before joining Wondeme, Dr. Kim spent four years as a research fellow at the Yale Child Study Center, one of the most respected child development research institutions in the world. Her work there examined how children process stories differently when they see characters that resemble themselves — findings that became foundational to Wondeme's approach to personalization. Her research has been published in the Journal of Child Psychology, the Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, and Developmental Science.

At Wondeme, Dr. Kim ensures that every book is developmentally appropriate, emotionally supportive, and designed to foster confidence and literacy skills. She advises on age-based content guidelines, reviews story themes for psychological impact, and leads the research that validates Wondeme's approach to personalized storytelling. She is also a mother of two and brings firsthand parenting perspective to her work.

Philosophy & Approach

"Every child processes stories differently. A personalized book meets them exactly where they are developmentally and emotionally."

Dr. Kim's approach is grounded in decades of developmental research showing that children engage more deeply with stories featuring characters who look like them. She views personalized books not as novelty products but as developmental tools that build self-concept, empathy, and a lifelong relationship with reading.
