James Walker

James Walker has been illustrating and designing children's books for 14 years, bringing a rare combination of artistic talent and technical design expertise to Wondeme. His career began at DK Publishing, where he spent five years as a senior illustrator working on their acclaimed children's reference and picture book lines, contributing to titles that sold millions of copies worldwide.

James then moved to Chronicle Books as Art Director, leading the visual design for their award-winning children's division. During his six years there, he directed illustration and layout for over 120 titles, earning multiple design awards and a 2022 Society of Illustrators finalist nomination. He developed a deep understanding of how visual pacing, color psychology, and character design work together to keep young readers engaged page after page.

At Wondeme, James oversees the entire visual experience — from the AI illustration style guide that ensures every generated character feels warm and hand-drawn, to the typography and page layouts that make each book feel like a premium, professionally published title. He trained Wondeme's AI models on principles of children's book illustration, ensuring the technology produces art that meets the standards of traditional publishing. He holds a BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
